French judge Olivier Bailly sacked for offering his daughter, 12, for sex on website
A 55-year-old French judge has been dismissed for offering sex with his 12-year-old daughter on an internet site for partner swapping.
The judicial disciplinary authority removed Olivier Bailly, a vice-president of the law courts in Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, from the bench for “conduct causing serious damage” to the judiciary.
Bailly, who was in charge of the family law division of the Dijon courts, admitted his action but pleaded at the hearing last month that he had been suffering from post-traumatic stress for more than a decade and had been acting out fantasies that he never followed through. Bailly, whose wife Sophie Véjux-Bailly is also a judge, was charged a year ago with corrupting a minor and provoking paedophile crime, offences which carry up to 10 years in jail.
Police officers posing as men looking for sex tracked down Bailly after a site for “libertine” encounters reported that the child’s picture in a swimsuit had been posted there with an offer of her services. They found that Bailly and his wife were active in partner-swapping circles, France 3 television reported. Véjux-Bailly was cleared of involvement in posting the image of the girl, the youngest of their three children.
Pauline Neveu, Bailly’s lawyer, told the hearing that he was afflicted with “terrible shame” but was suffering from mental health problems stemming from the trial in 2007 of Pierre Bodein, a rapist and serial killer, in which he had been chief prosecutor.
Pleading to keep his job, Bailly told the hearing: “I do not feel really unworthy of this profession, which I love. I think I have been useful and that I can still be useful one day.”
No date for a trial has been announced and Bailly is free pending proceedings.
