The dehumanizing condescension of white fragility

Image
I must admit  that I had not gotten around to actually reading Robin DiAngelo’s  White Fragility  until recently. But it was time to jump in. DiAngelo is an education professor and—most prominently today—a diversity consultant who argues that whites in America must face the racist bias implanted in them by a racist society. Their resistance to acknowledging this, she maintains, constitutes a “white fragility” that they must overcome in order for meaningful progress on both interpersonal and societal racism to happen. White Fragility  was published in 2018 but jumped to the top of the  New York Times  best-seller list amid the protests following the death of George Floyd and the ensuing national reckoning about racism. DiAngelo has convinced university administrators, corporate human-resources offices, and no small part of the reading public that white Americans must embark on a self-critical project of looking inward to examine and work against racist biases that many have barely known

Disabled men don’t have a ‘right’ to buy sex.

Disabled men don’t have a ‘right’ to buy sex. By Julie Bindel- April 30 2021 FULL TEXT  In the latest episode of ‘You couldn’t make it up’, a court has ruled that it is lawful for carers in particular circumstances to assist their clients in paying for sex. The case was brought on behalf of a 27-year-old mentally disabled man who was described as wishing to ‘fulfil a natural desire.’ Since when was paying for access to the inside of a person’s body for one-sided sexual gratification a ‘natural desire’? The ruling, unless successfully challenged, will have major implications not only for carers but for society at large. Government ministers have been granted permission to appeal the decision because it clashes with its aim to eradicate prostitution by way of criminalising the demand for sexual services. Does a disabled man have a right to sex? Does anyone? The right to sex is not enshrined in the Human Rights Act, nor is there any evidence whatsoever that celibacy, voluntary or involunt

Amnesty travesty By supporting trans extremism, the group has betrayed its mission February 26, 2021 | 12:44 pm Original here Irish Labour senator Annie Hoey, who told ‘TERFs’ on Twitter to suck coal last October Written by: Julie Bindel Share An open letter signed by major Irish NGOs — including Amnesty International (AI) and the National Women’s Council (NWC) has called for the removal of media and political representation for women who won’t capitulate to the demands of extreme trans activists. ‘We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs, that are aligned with far right ideologies and seek nothing but harm and division,’ reads the letter. ‘These fringe internet accounts stand against affirmative medical care of transgender people, and they stand against the right to self-identification of transgender people in this country… they stand against trans, women’s and gay rights by aligning themselves with far-rig

Police used ‘violent’ transgender activist for equality training Feminists have raised fears that the hiring of ‘ideologues’ skews officers’ responses to aggressive behaviour Maloney: admits having grabbed then wife Tracey by the neck SPLASH NEWS Andrew Gilligan Sunday April 28 2019, 12.01am, The Sunday Times Share Save * Original article here Transgender activists with a record of using insulting language or even violence against women have been used for police training in equality and diversity. Feminists say the use of “ideologues” for police awareness courses may help explain cases of officers dealing harshly with opponents of the transgender cause. Among the activists used by police is Kellie Maloney, a transgender boxing promoter, who as Frank Maloney tried to strangle his then wife, Tracey. “I just lost it . . . I grabbed her and had my hands around her neck,” Maloney said in 2015. “If [my children] hadn’t come into the room . . . I dread to think what might have happened.” Malo

Seven sex attacks in women’s jails by transgender convicts The Times 11.05.20

Seven sex attacks in women’s jails by transgender convicts The Times 11.05.20 Transgender prisoners are five times more likely to carry out sex attacks on inmates at women’s jails than other prisoners are, official figures show. Male prisoners who were transferred to women’s jails during gender reassignment and women inmates who are transitioning committed seven of the 124 sex attacks recorded between 2010 and 2018. They occurred at HMP Low Newton in Co Durham, Foston Hall in Derbyshire, Peterborough, Bronzefield in Middlesex and New Hall, West Yorkshire. Karen White, a child abuser who dressed as a woman but was still legally a man, was jailed for life in 2018 for sexually assaulting two prisoners at HMP New Hall and the rape of a woman while he was outside jail. Lord Keen of Elie, the Ministry of Justice spokesman in the Lords, told Labour’s Baroness McDonagh, in a written answer that there had been five attacks. The Ministry of Justice later updated the response to include White’s a
