Sex offender Gordon Pike helped set prison trans rules The policy of putting male-bodied offenders in female jails was backed by an official later convicted over child pornography Andrew Gilligan December 2 2018, 12:01am,  The Sunday Times Gordon Pike, right, agreed that male-bodied murderers such as Paris Green, left, born Peter Laing, should be jailed alongside women An official who agreed a policy allowing male-bodied sex offenders into women’s prisons was a sex offender who hoarded 22,000 indecent pictures of children. Gordon Pike, a senior official of the Scottish Prison Service, was one of those responsible for its “gender identity and gender reassignment policy”, documents seen by The Sunday Times show. The policy is significantly more liberal than England’s, stating that transgender prisoners must normally be housed according to the “social gender” with which they self-identify, “whether or not” they have legally changed it. Two years after approving the policy, Pike, 57, w...

Trans murderer Sophie Eastwood ‘would be out of jail already if she was a man’

Trans murderer Sophie Eastwood ‘would be out of jail already if she was a man’ Marcellelo ga Monday February 08 2021, 12.01am, The Times A murderer is to take legal action against the Scottish prison service after claiming that she has been discriminated against because she is transgender. Sophie Eastwood, 35, who is serving a life sentence for killing a fellow inmate, began her prison sentence as a man but has been living as a woman behind bars for more than three years and is in a wing at Polmont prison for female offenders. She believes that had she continued to live as a man, she would have been freed already and is now instructing a lawyer to fight her case to accelerate her release. Eastwood, who was known as Daniel when she admitted murder, has accused the prison authorities of transphobia and spoken for the first time of  her remorse over the “unforgivable” murder she committed, admitting she deserved a tougher punishment. California prisons grapple with hundreds of transgender inmates requesting new housingl Jasmine Jones, a legal assistant at the Transgender Gender-Variant & Intersex Justice Project in San Francisco, has been in touch with people held in women’s prisons who have concerns about a new law that allows inmates to be housed based on their gender identity. (Paul Kuroda / For The Times) By LEILA MILLERSTAFF WRITER APRIL 5, 2021 6 AM PT Kelly Blackwell longs to escape her life as a transgender woman in a California men’s prison, where she struggles every day to avoid being seen in her bra and panties and says she once faced discipline after fighting back when an inmate in her cell asked for oral sex. After more than 30 years, and two decades since Blackwell began hormone therapy, her chance to leave arrived last fall when groundbreaking legislation gave transgender, intersex and nonbinary inmates the right, regardless of anatomy, to choose whether to be housed in a male or female prison. But while Challenor has now gone, her reappearance in the headlines — and the way in which Reddit mishandled this story — is a revealing and disturbing insight into the transgender debate. It all began with an  article  I wrote for these pages on Green party gender madness in which I briefly mentioned Challenor’s suspension from the party in 2018. It was a scandal that Challenor did not wish to see dragged up. When a moderator of the popular UK politics community on Reddit shared that article, mentioning Challenor by na...

Spectator - Is Reddit Censoring The Spectator?

Image
Steerpike Is Reddit censoring The Spectator? (Photo by iStock) as 'the front page of the internet', has been accused of blocking  Spectator  articles. Earlier this week, the most popular UK politics page was suspended from public view and users who posted a link to a  Spectator  article were blocked. The article in question mentions one Aimee Challenor, a former ‘rising star’ of the Green party and transgender activist, who left the party in disgrace after she appointed her father — a violent paedophile — as her election agent. According to the moderators on the Reddit group r/UKPolitics, Aimee has since been hired by the tech firm, which is now zealously blocking content about her. One Redditor who posted a  Spectator  article containing a brief mention of Challenor found themselves mysteriously 'suspended’ from Reddit. That user was subsequently reinstated after r/UKPolitics raised concerns with the tech company. As the moderators put it, '...
