The Harry Potter author has founded Beira’s Place in Edinburgh after expressing concern that “trans inclusive” policies adopted by other support organisations had led to women failing to seek help. Ros Whyte helped to establish a centre in Glasgow more than 45 years ago that led to the foundation of  Rape Crisis Scotland , a charity founded by the Scottish government. “I was delighted to hear of JK Rowling’s generosity in relation to  Beira’s Place , which offers support and advocacy for women who have experienced sexual violence,” Whyte told the Daily Mail. “The new centre will be run by women for women. “It is disgr

Roz Adams was discriminated against at the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC), and endured an internal investigation “reminiscent of the work of Franz Kafka”, the tribunal found. The tribunal was to

The Times- The interests of victims should trump gender ideology and it is wrong that a place of support should prioritise its own beliefs over those it should be helping

The Times view on Edinburgh tribunal verdict: Rape Centre in Crisis new The interests of victims should trump gender ideology and it is wrong that a place of support should prioritise its own beliefs over those it should be helping Tuesday May 21 2024, 5.45pm BST, The Times The leaders of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre conducted a “heresy hunt” against one of the organisation’s own employees because, an employment judge has ruled, they wished to “make an example” of her “because of her gender-critical beliefs”. The manifestation of that belief was Roz Adams’ desire to reassure a woman seeking support from the centre that she would receive counselling from a woman. That is to say, a biological woman. Most people will instinctively understand that Adams’ views — and actions — were wholly reasonable. For many of her colleagues, however, they were “transphobic”. The tribunal’s verdict is scathing. “Normal concepts of natural justice” were ignored, explanations offered by staff at the centre

Jamie Raines — a 29-year-old trans man who makes YouTube videos aimed at young trans people — had a near-clean sweep of five-star ratings: “amazing”, “brilliant”, “thank you for speaking the truth”. Meanwhile,  When Kids Say They’re Trans  had been deluged with negative reviews calling it “dangerous” and “bigoted”. Very strange, since the book hadn’t even been published at the time. Even stranger if you’ve read the book, which is compassionate and measured, and
